Originally, Quatre did not feel loved and saw himself as an artificial person Zayeed Winner, his father, could easily replace. His twenty-nine sisters were all test tube babies. However, unknown to Quatre, he was born naturally, although his birth mother died during childbirth. This problem was later solved, except within the Winner family, who had been in space since the formation of the colonies. This resulted in artificial reproduction, with babies gestated in test tubes. When colonists first migrated into space, pregnant women had problems giving birth to newborn babies. Because of his experience aboard Wing Gundam Zero, he is one the few able to control the ZERO System. It is also implied that he may have a form of extrasensory perception or something similar, which he refers to as the "heart of outer space" ("uchuu no kokoro" in Japanese). He is the only one in his family with the genius ability to control a Gundam, and he shows outstanding talent in painting and music. As a firm believer in the ideals of pacifism, he is a reluctant soldier who often expresses sorrow whenever he is forced to kill his enemies. Out of all of the Gundam Pilots, Quatre seems the most well-adjusted of the group, generally displaying a kind, humble personality, as shown in the Japanese version, he uses the personal pronoun "Boku", a humble but weaker pronoun, compared to the pronoun "ore" that the other pilots use.
